Summer vacation for students is a time to enjoy the sun and recoup after 10 months of hard-work. While it is crucial to give our brains a break, research has found that over the summer students will experience 2 months of learning loss, the highest losses occurring in math and spelling.

Did you know?:

  • 96% of teachers say students appear to forget or lose skills or knowledge learned during the prior school year.
  • 85% of teachers spend 4 weeks or more, at the beginning of the school year, re-teaching or reviewing skills students have already learned.
  • By 9th grade, summer learning loss could be blamed for roughly two-thirds of the achievement gap.

Having our students work on their academics for as little as 15 minutes a day over the summer can drastically improve their education level and help prepare for the upcoming school year. On Tuesday, May 14th, Nathan Hemmelgarn of Carson Dellosa Education will be available for interview to discuss the summer learning loss that students may endure. He will also share tips and tricks on how to keep our students brains healthy and active in preparation for the upcoming school year.
