AWARD WINNING JOURNALIST SHARES WHY BUILDING A CANCER SUPPORT TEAM IS SO VITAL; DISCUSSES INVOLVEMENT WITH BREAKAWAY FROM CANCER®

**APRIL IS CANCER CONTROL MONTH**

JOAN LUNDEN, award winning journalist and breast cancer survivor

KIM THIBOLDEAUX, CEO of Cancer Support Community

Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer. In fact, more than 1.6 million people in the United States are diagnosed with cancer each year. Founded in 2005, Breakaway from Cancer is a collaboration between Amgen and four nonprofit organizations. Its aim is to raise awareness of important resources available to people affected by cancer — from prevention to survivorship. Anyone confronted with a cancer diagnosis knows that one person alone cannot fight cancer – you need a strong support team.

On Wednesday, April 19th, award winning journalist and cancer survivor Joan Lunden will educate viewers on the importance of early detection and empower them to get screened. Through her advocacy she inspired others to protect their own health. She’ll be joined by Kim Thiboldeaux, CEO of Cancer Support Community, one of the four non-profits that is part of Breakaway from Cancer. Both will discuss why it is so crucial to have a strong support system in place.
