ONE YEAR LATER: HOW DISASTER IMPACTED COMMUNITIES STILL NEED HELP TO GET BACK ON THEIR FEET

AS JUNE MARKS THE BEGINNING OF HURRICANE SEASON, NEW DATA SHOWS RELIEF NEEDED LONGER THAN PREVIOUSLY REALIZED AND HELPS DETERMINE WHAT AID IS STILL NEEDED

JAKE WOOD

Co-Founder and CEO of Team Rubicon

Every year, natural disasters impact millions of American lives, leaving damaging effects that last for months, and even years. While the damage lingers, donations, awareness and support falter in the weeks following. New, nationally sourced data is bringing the issue to life about the ongoing need for support – long after most consumers have forgotten even these disasters’ names, let alone the damage they caused. In addition, previously damaged communities across the US can receive the reinvigorated support they still need, as one-year disaster anniversaries loom. With the help of this new information donations, awareness, and support can be highly targeted to help those effected get back on their feet more efficiently and comfortably.

Did you know?

·         2018 was the fourth-costliest year since 1980 in terms of insured losses, setting a record high weather related disaster bill of $306 billion.

·         Three out of every four Americans can’t recall a natural disaster that occurred last year.

·         Less than one year later, only 20% of Americans know which states were impacted by Hurricane Harvey, but there’s still millions without their lives back.

·         25% of families are still displaced and not able to return home one year after a natural disaster

As June marks the beginning of hurricane season, Jack Link’s is taking action by partnering with veteran-led disaster relief organization, Team Rubicon in a “Fueling The Front Lines” campaign aimed at fueling long-term disaster relief and recovery. In addition to hundreds of thousands of bags of jerky, Jack Link’s is matching consumer donations dollar for dollar. On Monday, June 3rd, Jake Wood, Co-founder and CEO of Team Rubicon, will be available for interview to discuss these new statistics regarding natural disasters, what is being done to restore communities and how consumers can get involved.
