Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States, affecting up to 50 million Americans annually. Approximately 85 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24 experience at least minor acne – but it can continue into one’s 30s and 40s.

 

Having blemishes or not feeling good in your own skin can impact self-esteem for many. A recent study by Massage Envy identifies the emotional tolls that people in Dallas with acne experience. Many acne fighters avoid social interaction during breakouts, and sometimes even avoid seeking skin treatment from a professional due to embarrassment and shame, resulting in trying go at it alone.

Dallas respondents reported feeling more stressed about their breakouts, but more satisfied when their skin is clear. Respondents state that skincare is important and better understand skincare; undergo routine care and use/understand tools.

 

The top emotions Dallas respondents reported feeling when their skin is not clear were embarrassment (34%), followed by frustration (35%) and stress (25%).

·         Dallas respondents feel less frustrated with their skin overall – reporting less negative emotions than national respondents – feel less embarrassed, less frustrated and less stressed when their skin is not clear than others
